Over the past months, Big Lakes County has experienced increased vandalism and break-ins at the Regional Landfill and our transfer stations. In addition to the property damage, garbage bags have been ripped open and rifled through. We would like to remind residents to remain diligent of the possibility of identity theft.
To protect your trash, it is recommended that you shred anything that might have a Social Insurance Number, birth date, signature, account number, password or a PIN number.
Remember to shred old bank records, credit card applications and credit card offers you get in the mail, unneeded medical bills, investment account statements and obsolete ID cards like expired driver’s licenses, passports and medical insurance cards.
