Brian Panasiuk is taking the plunge.
The first-term council member is challenging incumbent Linda Cox in order to become High Prairie’s next mayor.
First elected to council in 2013, Panasiuk also serves as Director of Career Programs at Northern Lakes College, a post he’s held for more than 30 years.
He told the Trending 55 Newsroom that being on council gives you a good idea about what’s coming for the community.
As Panasiuk considered whether or not to run for a second term as a councillor, or take a shot at the big chair, he said he received lots of words of encouragement from the public.
He says with all the momentum coming from the recent business coming to the community, Panasiuk says it’s important that things keep moving.
Also coming to the town during his term on council was the Tolko reopening, as well as the Tim Hortons coming to town.
Also an important issue to Panasiuk is getting some more people to come to the community, citing the recent opening of the 50-year-old time capsule.
A candidates forum is set to take place on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. It’s being hosted by the High Prairie and Area Chamber of Commerce.
