The Canadian Ranger Patrol was among those groups who helped with the flood relief efforts in Fort Vermilion.

Sergeant Tom Simpson, the Patrol Commander for Fort Vermilion, says they had a strong commitment from their members to assist residents.

“We have six ranger from La Crete that are part of our patrol that were helping out every night. When the bridge was closed down, we were able to access our resources North of the bridge to maintain that infrastructure watch that we had going on in Buttertown.”

Simpson says the team members “went above and beyond what was expected” and they received a lot of appreciation from the community.

“When you’re there and trying to give them some comfort there or you’re just assisting them with either an update or helping out or cleaning up, it’s the appreciation which keeps the guys feeling better about the situation.”

According to Simpson, the patrol has 25 members who are mostly from the Fort Vermilion and La Crete areas.
