A wildfire that started in the spring of last year is now out according to Alberta Wildfire.
According to the government agency, the fire was officially extinguished on October 13.
“Thanks to the hard work of wildland firefighters, structural fire departments, First Nations, industry and municipal partners, this wildfire has now been extinguished,” says a statement announcing the end of the fire.
The started due to a lightning strike on May 12, 2019 and lasted nearly 17 months, burning nearly 335,000 hectares and caused evacuations of properties as well as massive damage.
This summer, firefighters focused on hot spots as well as lookouts for any spots that could emerge.
