Last week, Greenview Enforcement Services, Town of Fox Creek Protective Services, Town of Valleyview Protective Services, and the County of Grande Prairie No. 1 Enforcement Services joined forces during International Brake Safety Week to focus on commercial vehicle safety and compliance.
Throughout the day, members completed eight Level 1 inspections. Those eight commercial vehicles combined for a staggering 105 violations.
The eight vehicle inspections combined for five units being placed out-of-service, two requiring attention and one passed.
One of the most notable and surprising violations was a u-joint that had come loose on the driveshaft. The u-joint’s main nut was backed off, causing the drive shaft to move freely inside the u-joint.
This unit was also 10,000 kg overweight and was travelling at highway speeds.
An overview of other violations includes:
3 units were weighted on portable scales (all three overweight)
29 brake violations
9 overweight violations
Other violations included cargo securement, tires worn with steel cords visible/frayed, and loose suspension connecting rods.
6 violation tickets and 99 warnings were issued.
