COVID-19 UPDATE: April 8

On April 8, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,429 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 156,905.

Three people passed away, which means 2,005 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

340 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 15,181 cases of COVID-19 and 150 people have passed away.

There are currently 1,614 active cases in our zone with 41 in Mackenzie County, 25 in the MD of Greenview, 15 Big Lakes County, 12 in the MD of Peace, 11 in the MD of Fairview, eight in Northern Sunrise County, six in the MD of Smoky River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 142,713 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 12,187 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • RCC Simonette Lodge, Valleyview
  • St. Theresa General Hospital, Fort Vermilion

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
