COVID-19 UPDATE: March 16

On March 16, Alberta Health Services confirmed 355 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 139,143.

Three people passed away, which means 1,952 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

260 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 12,867 cases of COVID-19 and 141 people have passed away.

There are currently 773 active cases in our zone with 181 in Mackenzie County, 39 in the MD of Peace, 29 in the MD of Greenview, six in Big Lakes County, five in Northern Sunrise County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 132,415 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 4,776 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Knowledge Tree Childcare Centre, Valleyview
  • Mighty Peace Chevrolet, Buick, GMC
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • Valleyview Health Centre

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
