The Rio Grande Canada Day Rodeo took place over the weekend in the County of Grande Prairie.

Dean Dreger, who farms just outside of the city of Grande Prairie, won the Western Chuckwagon Association (WCA) dash yesterday for the $3,500 grand prize.
Dreger had a collective four-day time of 4.23.59 and 56 points. He was followed close behind by Grande Prairie’s Don Federuik, who had a time of 4.24.10 and 59 points.
In third place was Doug Green of Daysland, with a time of 4.25.28 and 57 points, while hometown favourite Ron Bolin pulled up in fourth place at 4.25.28 and 55 points. Manning-born Kelly Sommerville was fifth at 4.26.00 and 54 points.
The next WCA event goes in Rycroft, with the Deken Oilfield Transport’s “Race the 8” going from Thursday, July 6 to Sunday, July 9, 2017.
