DMI Releases Statement on September Boiler Explosion at Peace River Pulp Division

Daishowa-Marubeni International Limited (DMI) has released a statement regarding an explosion involving their recovery boiler on September 22, 2017 at their Peace River Pulp Division.

The company says it was the result of a smelt water reaction as the result of a tube leak.

No injuries resulted from the explosion, but it did cause some damage in the boiler area, which was subsequently repaired.

DMI President Tomoyuki Iida says that the company thanks their team members, contractors, as well as the community, for their support as they undertook the project to repair the recovery boiler.

“The united efforts of many allowed us to repair (the boiler) with minimal downtime, with a focus on safety,” said Iida. “We’re pleased to be back online, and we look forward to continued production.”
