The Philadelphia Eagles were auctioning off a jacket the was inspired by the one Princess Diana was wearing at a game back in the day for an Eagles Autism Charity. The jacket was being modeled by Jason Kelce, the star centre’s wife Kylie. The jacket sold for $100,000, but the story about how it got that high is priceless.
Massive Eagles fan Rob McElhenney, known for It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and co-owning the the Welsh football club Wrexham A.F.C. with Ryan Reynolds, began to bid on the jacket with his bid of $10k. Rob kept getting outbid and at one point immediately after placing the bid and seemed to start to take it personal, but he didn’t realize how personal it was. It turns out the person outbidding him lives in the same house and was his wife of 15 years and co-star from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Kaitlin Olson. She eventually texted him to tell him it was her and they compromised of making it $100k to win the bidding on the jacket. News outlets picked up the funny story but didn’t know who won the bidding as Rob stopped at $62k and the winner was never disclosed. That was until Rob went on the New Heights podcast that is hosted by Jason and his brother Travis and made the big reveal (though hadn’t gotten the jacket yet).
The husband and wife both being massive Philly sports fans with Olson even going into labor with their first son while at a Philadelphia Phillies game. They were happy to support the autism charity as they themselves have raised money for similar programs in the past and with Wrexham, especially as back in July, McElhenney was diagnosed with “a host of neurodevelopmental disorders and learning disabilities.”
