Manning and Valleyview are among a number of rural communities in the province getting money for new schools in the provincial budget.
Education Minister Adriana LaGrange says it’s important to have modern schools in rural communities.
“They are often a hub for the community where everybody has events and knowing that in rural communities sometimes there’s a lower utilization of schools because they’re aging and populations are sometimes declining. What we’re seeing in the area is that there is much need and we’re looking to address that need.”
We talked to the Minister about this and also the draft curriculum.
LaGrange says the provincial budget includes money for the implementation.
“$191 million allocated for curriculum implementation, supports and resources. $59 million in this year. Now that we have these three subjects and these grades allocated, now we’re going to start determining how we’re going to spend those dollars to make sure that teachers are trained, that they have all of the supports and resources they need to implement those curriculum pieces.”
The new K-3 Mathematics, English Language Arts and Literature curriculums as well as new K-6 Physical Education and Wellness will be implemented starting in September.
