On the evening of January 27, an emergency landing was made at the High Level Airport after a small medevac plane reported mechanical issues with the landing gear.
Airport staff were notified of the landing gear issue and the plane made several low flybys so ground crews could identify the issue, but were unsuccessful in doing so. The decision was made to land with no landing gear and emergency crews were on standby prior to the emergency landing.
The four passengers: two pilots and two medical staff, were not injured in the landing
Airport Manager, Luke Colatorti said constant communication between the pilot, tower, and emergency crews was a key part of the landing. “It was probably the best outcome possible for this kind of event,” Colatorti added. “Nobody was hurt, no fuel was spilled, and no fire occurred.”
The High Level Airport is a regional transportation hub that serves the needs of residents in northern Alberta.
