The electric ways of the transportation industry may be making it’s way into the Peace Region. Electric vehicle charging stations have been discussed in recent council meetings in Grimshaw and Peace River.

The federal government has recognized the lack of EV chargers in municipalities in rural Alberta and announced on January 18th, 2022 a 2$-million investment with Alberta Municipalities to support installation of up to 260 EV chargers throughout the province through their Municipal Climate Change Action Centre.

The topic was brought up in May 2021 to Peace River council with a request for direction.

In the January 24, 2022 Peace River Town Council meeting, Deputy Mayor Byron Schamehorn moved the motion to direct Administration to make an application for the EV Charger Station program.

The Town of Grimshaw’s council meeting discussed the program and directed administration to draft a letter of interest for the program.
