Council Highlights – April 1, 2025
Ken Sargent House Delegation: Representatives from the Ken Sargent House presented their project to council. The facility will provide a supportive living environment for patients and their families near the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. The delegation sought funding support for the $12 million project. Council approved a contribution of $10,000 per year for the next three years, totaling $30,000.
Budget and Tax Updates: The 2025 operating and capital budgets will be passed at the April 15 council meeting. The province has increased the Education Property Tax, which will result in an approximately 7% increase on the Education tax portion of property tax bills. The Municipal tax rate is not expected to increase.
Land Use Bylaw Amendment: Council passed the first reading of an amendment to allow “Shouse” residential construction in the Country Residential District (R-CR). The bylaw is available for review on the Town’s website.
Grant Funding for Water Reservoir Rehabilitation: The Town successfully obtained a grant of $898,470 for rehabilitation work on the treated water reservoir. The total project cost is approximately $2 million.
Upcoming Events: Start of Summer (SOS) Event: Scheduled for June 14 on the large grass area west of the Community Centre. The event will feature a variety of entertainment, with more details to come.
Fairview Curling Club: Recently celebrated 90 years in operation.
