One of Fairview’s hockey players is continuing his college hockey career.

Tyson Helgesen is now in his fourth year at Mount Royal University, he says he had some big influences on his hockey career growing up.

“Growing up when I was a really little kid, they used to have that senior team the Fairview Kings, so I’d always go there to those games. My older brothers played hockey and my sister, I always had them to look up to and we always battled against each other on the outdoor rinks. Once I got a little bit older, just seeing my brother Kenton and the success that he’s had, I look up to him and I think he’s had quite a bit of influence on my career so far.”

Helgesen is majoring in business at MRU and says he’s managed to find the balance between playing hockey and getting his school work done.

“My first year, I had quite a course load to just get accustomed back to school and balancing practice and hockey and everything. Once you get into a routine, it becomes normal and being in my fourth year I can definitely manage it better than I did in my first two years.”
