The Town of Falher will be using a provincial government grant to change the functionality of the Falher Regional Recreation Complex’s curling rink. The town applied for the provinces Municipal Stimulus Program in late-summer 2020 to be able to use the curling rink space year-round, by turning it into a field house in the off-season. The application was successful and the town received a lump some grant of $118,457 for the project.

The curling rink space will be transformed with the funds by installing gymnasium style flooring seasonally to accommodate many uses during the curling off-season.  Current floor plans for the space is to hold a pickle-ball court and a full sized basketball court as the default layout. More sports will be held in the facility though, as the plan is to have all sporting equipment to be mobile. Volleyball, floor hockey and pickle-ball are a few possibilities of dedicated setups for the floor plan as well.

The facility went under massive reconstruction in 2006 and 2007 and is enjoyed by the entire Smoky River region. The complex is home to many groups such as; the Falher Pirates, Smoky River Minor Hockey, the Falher Curling Club and Falher Gym. The Town of Falher is looking forward to more groups that will call the facility home as well with the future field house.
