Faust RCMP arrest individual following attempt to flee traffic stop
High Prairie, Alta. – On Nov. 26, 2024, at approximately 11:46 p.m., Faust RCMP and Lakeshore Regional Police Service conducted a joint traffic stop on a vehicle. During the initial interaction with the driver, police observed open alcohol and a clear bag of .223 rifle rounds on the passenger side floor board. The female driver was asked to exit the vehicle. While Faust RCMP were speaking with her, officers observed what appeared to be a firearm in the backseat.
Lakeshore Regional Police advised Faust RCMP they observed the firearm, at this time a male jumped into the driver seat of the vehicle from where he was hiding underneath the back seat. The male was advised he was under arrest, and officers attempted to arrest the male. The male then he grabbed the officers arm and sped off at a high rate of speed dragging both officers.
The vehicle was disabled by police a short distance away from the assault and the male attempted to flee foot. Police began to search for the male with the assistance of High Prairie RCMP and additional Lakeshore Regional Police officers. The male was located and taken into custody
Dimitri Prince, 19-years old resident of Joussard, Alta, has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault on Police Office causing bodily harm x2
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Resist/obstruct Peace Officer
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Careless use of a firearm
- Possession of firearm in motor vehicle
- Fail to comply with release order condition x6
Dimitri was taken before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded into custody. His last court date was on Dec. 9, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in High Prairie.
