Members of Parliament are on their summer break after a spring session dominated by debates on the countries financial shape.
Chris Warkentin, the MP for Grande Prairie-Mackenzie, says the Conservatives want to see a fiscal plan that would “protect Canadians interests”.
“Protect Canadians from escalating interest rate hikes, protect Canadians from the escalating inflation that we’ve seen over the last number of years because of overspending by the federal government. This government to just totally disregard all the evidence and all the warnings about overspending and increased out of control fiscal deficits.”
Warkentin says there are a number of pressures that have lead to the financial situation that many Canadians are in.
“We’re seeing an escalation in the cost of goods. What the federal government did is printed a whole bunch of money, obviously more money in the system going after fewer goods means that the prices are going to go up. That is the law of inflation so we’ve continued to call on the federal government to pull back on this out of control printing of money devaluing our currency.”
Warkentin says the Conservatives are also calling on the Liberal government to limit their deficit spending.
