The sounds of snowmobiles carving up misery mountain will echo through the valley starting tomorrow morning at 8:30, as the first annual Mighty Peace Hill Climb kicks off. Racers from all over the region and beyond will be attending the races tomorrow and Sunday, and so far over 100 racers have signed up.

Owner of Mighty Peace Power Sports and RV and Mighty Peace GM Brett Smyl says this is the first time a race like this has taken place in Alberta.

“I brought the idea to the ski hill just over a year and a half ago,” says Smyl. “When I pitched the idea, I wasn’t sure where it was going to go, but the ski hill jumped on board right away.”

Smyl says there is a huge amount of racers and riders in Alberta, and especially Peace River.

“The circuit has a massive amount of riders. Put on a race, and they will come,” says Smyl.

The races at the Mighty Peace Hill Climb are timed races which are separated by classes. Smyl says the classes go by sled, but there are also women’s and junior classes as well.

Smyl says he didn’t realize this type of race was so exclusive. He adds it’s huge for the industry and it’s huge for Peace River.

“This puts us on the map. The sledding world is very small, and when you do something like this, it’s heard all over.”
