Fort Vermilion RCMP seek information in series of events including armed robbery
La Crete, Alta. – Fort Vermilion RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance with information in relation to a string of crimes that occurred in La Crete area.
On Dec. 1, 2023, at approximately 7:08 a.m., Fort vermilion RCMP received a report of a break and enter to the Buffalo Head Prairie Co-Op South of La Crete. An unknown suspect gained entry into the store, damaged property and fled in an unknown direction.
On Dec. 1, 2023, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Fort Vermilion RCMP received a report of an armed robbery that occurred at 8:15 p.m., at Friesen’s General Store North of La Crete.
Two unknown suspects approached the store at closing time while brandishing a firearm and a machete at the employee. One of the suspects then entered the story and demanded cash from the employee. The two suspects then fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a dark coloured pick-up truck. The employee was not physically injured.
Both suspects are believed to be males in their 20s and are described as follows:
Suspect 1 is described as:
- Medium build
- Wearing a white mask
- Plaid jacket
- Dark pants
- Black running shoes with white soles
Suspect 2 is described as:
- Slim build
- Wearing a black balaclava
- Dark sweater with a hood
- White cloves
- Black jacket
- Grey pants
- Black shoes
On Dec. 2, 2023, at 12:34 a.m., Fort Vermilion RCMP received a report of a stolen black Toyota Tundra that occurred from a residence in La Crete on Dec. 1, 2023 between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The truck has since been recovered and officers believe this truck to be the same vehicle used in the robbery at Friesen’s General Store.
Police believe the same two suspects were involved in all three crimes in the area.
Surveillance image captures of the two suspects is being share in an effort to identify them.
