Fort Vermillion RCMP lay charges for weapon offences

On the night of April 6, 2020 around eight o’clock, Fort Vermillion RCMP were dispatched to a 9-1-1 call from a victim that had a firearm pointed at themselves and been bear sprayed.

RCMP found two victims in their vehicle were approached outside the Snicklefritz Liquor store in Fort Vermillion by two separate suspects. The suspects pointed a firearm, getting the victims to confront the suspects. The victims were then sprayed in the eyes with bear spray and suffered minor injuries as result. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived and no other people are believed to be injured from the incident.

A 28-year old man from Fort Vermillion and a 21-year old man from High Level were located and arrested without incident following the crime. The two men have been charged with a combined five charges including; pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon, unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, possession of a weapon with dangerous purpose and failing to comply with release order condition.

The two men have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Fort Vermillion provincial court on June 16, 2020 in relation to the charges.
