Friday 5 – Looney Toons

This week I’ve been in a bit on an cartoon feeling so I thought let’s look at Looney Tunes. Looney Toon characters are known world wide and the franchise began back in 1930 with major characters we know and love not coming for many years later. I want to give some props to them by looking at my top 5 Looney Tunes characters.

5. Yosemite Sam

Kicking off the list is Yosemite Sam a fiery villainous character but never disappoints to bring laughs even when being foiled by Bugs Bunny. The temper played well with Bugs’ calm cool demeanor. Who among us never uttered “Oooooo! I hate that rabbit!.” Plus I am insanely jealous of that ‘stache

4. Michigan J. Frog

The average looking frog that in front of one man would start singing and performing a variety of songs most notably “The Michigan Rag” and of course “Hello! Ma Baby.” Even though he doesn’t have much appearances in the franchise he was the mascot for the WB. The character originally died in 2005 near the end of The WB before it became The CW but was revived in 2018.

3. Wile E. Coyote

Well if insanity is as Albert Einstein described “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” than Wile E. Coyote is insane. Wile E.’s goal of catching and eating the Road Runner through many Acme gadgets is always met with failure and bodily harm coming to himself. How he affords the gadgets and mounting medical bills is beyond me but Wile E. never fails to entertain.

2. Daffy Duck

Well I’m sure he would be saying to me “Youuu’re deththpicable!” for not having him as number one and it was close but Daffy remains the bridesmaid. Daffy actually came before Bugs Bunny and is a cornerstone of the franchise whether it’s his own wacky adventures like Duck Dodgers or being against Bugs Daffy has always made people laugh and his work with the bunny is 2nd to none.

1. Bugs Bunny

Taking the top spot is the main character of the franchise a character who actually made classical music interesting to me and since 1938 has made entertained us all. Who among us hasn’t took a bite of a carrot and said “What’s Up, Doc?” Bugs has many other catchphrases but “What’s Up, Doc?” stands the test of time. His countless antics are that of cartoon legend and has earned the top spot.
