Friday 5 – Superheroes

This week for the Friday 5 I decided since it is National Superhero Day to go with superheros. Now for this movies have very little if anything to do with the list so as much as I like the some of the MCU movies they have no barring on characters like Thor or Iron Man making the list. As a kid I always like superheros and the top 2 have always been my favourites. Movies and TV series have helped me find out about superheroes to grow my interest as I am sure they have for many of you. I will not be including anti-heroes so no Deadpool, Spawn or Venom for this list sorry.

5. Green Arrow

Kicking off the list is Green Arrow, an unlikely pick for the list but hey I like him. Think Batman money but sharpshooting of Hawkeye and you get Green Arrow. What is really cool and has appeal to me is the trick arrows he uses which come in handy when defending his hometown of Star City. While not as well known as others his character has an entertaining attitude that is depicted throughout media appearances in cartoons and shows. It also helps he is blonde which as a blonde I like.

4. Daredevil

The “Man Without Fear” takes the 4th spot. Also known as the “Devil of Hell’s Kitchen” or by his actual name Matt Murdock, who is a blind lawyer has his origins stem from a childhood chemical accident that gave him special abilities. Daredevil has superhuman senses and is highly skilled and expert martial artist. Daredevil is unique when it comes to superheroes which is nice to see, there are so many similar characters throughout comics but I’ve never seen one that similar to Daredevil.

3. Superman

It’s a bird it’s a plane no wait it’s Superman. How can you make a list and not include Superman? He is a man capable of flight, super speed, x-ray vision, projecting heat from his eyes, and more. Superman might be an alien but is truly human, despite all his powers he has managed to push aside all the loss in his life and still have the positive outlook he does.

2. Batman

Coming up the tiniest bit short is the caped crusader Batman. Now Batman and our #1 selection have always been my favourites and it works out that one DC and the other is Marvel. Batman has used loss to motivate him for good in his own way. Batman unlike superman is a more relatable superhero which is why he edges him out on the list. He also has the best villains which certainly doesn’t hurt his case. While not truly having a “super power” like others he manages to still nearly top the list.

1. Wolverine
Taking the top spot is one of my favourite superheroes when I was a kid and that is Wolverine. There has always been something so cool about him maybe it was the attitude from the old X-Men cartoon show or the claws. He is a mutant who possesses animal-keen senses, enhanced physical capabilities, powerful regenerative ability known as a healing factor, and three retractable claws in each hand. The movies certainly do help with things with Hugh Jackman making the character bigger than ever. Wolverine like Batman is a relatable character with how he handles and deals with things which makes him all the better in my eyes. It also helps to know that the character Wolverine is Canadian.
