News release from the Town of Grimshaw on the highlights of the council meeting this week.
Regional Energy Committee Terms of Reference
Council reviewed and approved the Terms of Reference for the Regional Energy Committee, formed to discuss possible nuclear development in the region. Council also allocated $2000 to support membership and meeting costs. Neighboring municipalities that are members of the committee are also being asked to contribute $2000 to provide funding for the support committee. The committee consists of representatives from the Town of Grimshaw, County of Northern Lights, MD of Peace 135, Town of Peace River, and Northern Sunrise County.
Staff Policy
Council updated the Staff Policy in many areas to ensure compliance with labour legislation. The changes will take effect on November 1, 2024. In May, Council committed to review one policy per month to ensure that they remain relevant and up to date.
Community Futures Peace Country Songrise Conference
Council approved a $500 donation to support Community Futures Peace Country’s upcoming Songrise Conference. The conference will take place in Fairview on October 4 and 5, 2024, and include a public concert showcasing music created during the conference. Rail Safety Week – September 23-29, 2024
Council reviewed correspondence from CN regarding Rail Safety Week and voted to recognize this important week of awareness from September 23-29, 2024. Rail Safety Week provides the opportunity to create awareness regarding the importance of rail safety and the risks of not obeying signs and signals at rail crossings.
Resource for Suicide Prevention North Peace Lease Agreement
Council reviewed and approved the lease agreement for the rental of the former Town of Grimshaw Administration Office to the Resource for Suicide Prevention North Peace (RSPNP) for a five-year term. Council also expressed appreciation for the services and support provided by the RSPNP, noting that the connections with schools and program leaders are beneficial, as are the training opportunities offered that bring in people from around the region.
The next Town of Grimshaw Council meeting will be held at 7 PM on August 28, 2024.
