The original Halloween franchise comes to a close with Halloween Ends, with Michael Myers and Laurie Strode having one more battle. The movie is set 3 years after the events of Halloween Kills with Laurie in a better place and living with her granddaughter Allyson, while the legend of the boogeyman aka Michael Myers looms over the town

The film introduces a character Corey Cunningham who was accused of killing a child he babysat which creates sort of a parallels in ways the way the Strode’s are viewed as pariahs in town. I felt the movie was rushed in particular with the relationship of Corey and Allyson over an extremely short period of time and a seemingly lack of Michael Myers especially as he and Laurie are to be the focal point. The movie felt more like it was setting up another movie for the most part or was the 2nd half of one that didn’t exist. A film set up to focus the end of the long running struggle between Laurie and Michael surprisingly has very little to do with them and are more background characters for the film.

For a horror slasher film it surprisingly had very little deaths especially compared to the others in the franchise and lacked major important moments, though some kills were done very well. I had a problem with kills basically happening with people and nobody realizing they occurred at all. The big final struggle was INCREDIBLY lackluster and was over rather quick with no real twists and turns, that you felt were coming but never did. Endings of movie franchises or incarnations of franchises can rarely finish right much as is the case with wrapping up long running television shows, which was a shame given the last few since it was brought back. I would save you money and buy yourself some Halloween candy to enjoy instead of going to see it.

Final Grade: 5/10
