On November 23, Captain of the High Level Fire Department, Laurie Hauk was awarded with the Alberta Emergency Services Medal from the province for her 12 years with the department by High Level Mayor, Crystal McAteer. Hauk joined the High Level Fire Department in July 2008 and has rose to the rank of Captain during her time.
“…I absolutely love it”
In her 12 years, Hauk says “Once you join you either like it or you don’t, for me I absolutely love it!” The fire department is fully ran by volunteers and it’s not often they get paid for the work. “90% of the time it’s volunteer work and we do it because we love it and we wanna help our community.” Hauk added.
The Alberta Emergency Services Medal (AESM) honours emergency services personnel who are involved in supporting emergency prevention, preparedness, response in Alberta and who have committed 12, 22, 32 and 40 years of service.
