There is a big focus on mental health today, with Bell Media hosting its annual Let’s Talk Day. The telecom giant will donate a nickel to mental health initiatives for every text message sent, every long distance call on their network, or for every tweet using hashtag Bell Let’s Talk. However, as Bell tries to spread awareness about mental health, Peace River Community Mental Health Services already has the information covered. Mental Health Promotions Facilitator Ruth Soult says they offer mental health first aid courses on a regular basis, which tells people about the many different types of mental illness, as well as showing the person how to do some practical things to help somebody mentally ill. Soult says they have also created its own focused Mental Health Week for the community, where they encourage people to take care of themselves and their mental health. That week is scheduled to take place May 4th to 11th, 2015. She adds they also provide a walk-in mental health clinic, which is open Monday to Friday.
