This week sees the Alberta Men’s Provincial Championship aka the 2023 Boston Pizza Cup take place in Enoch. Both Team Webb and Team Vavrek have players from around the region competing to represent Alberta at the Brier taking place March 3rd to 12th in London, ON. The tournament is a triple knockout format which means no round robin like the Alberta Scotties was, so 3 strikes and you are out. This is a tough province to come out of with notable teams like Koe and Bottcher in the field. Both teams (Webb and Vavrek) look to replicate the success locals Kayla and Ashton Skrlik of Team Skrlik saw at the Alberta Scotties last month.

Third – Tristan Steinke – Dawson Creek
Skip: – Scott Webb – Peace River
Team Vavrek is made up of:
Lead – Evan Asmussen – Manning
Second – Tyler Lautner – Calgary
Third – Rolland Robinson – Grimshaw
Skip Daylen Vavrek – Sexsmith
Both teams will have their hands full in the stacked Alberta Provincial Championship that features 2 teams guaranteed entry as wild cards into the Brier regardless of winning in Team Koe and Team Bottcher. The Championship also features some strong up and coming teams like Team Sluchinski and Team Sturmay.
Team Webb opens the triple knock out tournament against Team Konschuh whereas Team Vavrek will open against Team Kozak. Both games are Wednesday at 1 pm.
