Sometimes things aren’t as good as you remember. That doesn’t mean it’s bad.
Recently at a store, I saw a brand new copy of one of my favourite games from my childhood. Sonic the Hedgehog. I love this game it has really cool cinematic cutscenes, 3 intertwining stories, multiplayer, great characters and fun gameplay. That is how I remember it at least.
People are not very fond of this game. Many complain about bugs or problems with it. It has long and plenty of loading screens. The gameplay has some parts where it is just unmanuvarable and not fun to play. It has a 46% on Metacritic which is a collective score based on a bunch of reviews to give you an idea.
Going back there are definitely things I still like about it but looking at it as an adult with a fresh set of eyes there are definitely things that aren’t great about the game. I will say though the music is still amazing.
Now that’s not to say going back was a bad idea despite its flaws I still love this game and now being able to see more of the flaws I think I love it more. Maybe that’s the wrong word. I think I understand it more, but that’s just how I see it.
