
The area of Mackenzie County has been approved for Disaster Recovery Program assistance for the 2021 overland flood.
Under the 2021 Mackenzie County Flood Disaster Recovery Program, applications are being accepted for Mackenzie County. Residents can apply for disaster financial assistance if property was damaged due to overland flooding on April 17, 2021.
Damages caused by overland flooding may be eligible for DRP assistance whereas hail damage, sewer backup and insurance deductibles are not eligible under the program.
The Government of Alberta recommends that these steps have been taken before submitting an application.
Step 1. Contact your local government. Find out if there are any supports available in the area, which may include assistance with clean up.
Step 2. Take pictures of the damage. Take pictures of all damaged items inside and outside property before throwing anything away or make any repairs.
Step 3. Contact your insurance company to open a claim.
Step 4. Begin clean-up and repair work. Contact local municipality to ensure all required building permits, authorizations, and approvals are in place for rebuilds or repairs. The repairs and rebuilds must meet current codes and regulations to be eligible for program assistance. Wear proper personal protective equipment when cleaning your property.
Step 5. Record all the time spent cleaning and making repairs Keep copies of all receipts for clean up, repairs and replacement of damaged property. Repairs are not required before submitting an application.
Step 6. Ask for letter about insurance coverage. Contact the insurance company about coverage and exclusions.
