Protective Services at Northern Sunrise County responded to the blaze at 8:30 PM in minus 20 degree temperatures. At that point, the building was fully engulfed in flames.

But, by 11 PM, with help from the fire departments in the Town of Peace River and the County of Northern Lights, they were able to get the blaze under control. However, some crews remained on the scene until the early hours of Thursday morning extinguishing any remaining flames, as well as each hot spot.

But the good news, according to Protective Services Director David LeBlanc, was that the blaze was kept to just one building.

“We were able to save a couple of other exterior buildings around the building,” said LeBlanc. “As well, we also managed to rescue a couple of other vehicles which were parked in the front, as well as along the side.”

LeBlanc says an investigation continues today. He adds that it’s expected to be concluded by sometime tomorrow morning.
