Man Remains Missing in Smoky River

The search continues for a missing man in the Smoky River.

On Saturday, June 10, 2017, Grande Prairie RCMP received a report at 6:50 PM about a missing boater near the Riverstone Golf Course.

The man had been travelling earlier in the day with two women when the canoe they were in capsized.

All three were able to grab onto a log and float for several hours.

At one point, the two women swam to shore, but the man didn’t attempt it, as he was too fatigued.

Emergency responders searched the river, as well as the surrounding area. Both women were located along the side of the river, and were suffering from hypothermia.

Ground searches have been suspended due to high levels of fast moving water, large debris floating down the river, as well as dangerous search conditions.

Police will provide an update once more details are available.
