Fairview Mayor, Gord McLeod says when the budget was passed earlier this year the tax rate was reduced by 1.5% in 2020; the second time it’s been lowered since 2013, otherwise the rate has stayed the same.
McLeod tells the Trending 55 Newsroom the other projects the Town of Fairview took on this year was a economic growth plan, installed a new cell tower and WiFi in the downtown area for public use, a residential sidewalk snow clearing program and a new concept to promote the downtown centre.
“We passed a face covering bylaw and made a new website to promote the town’s events virtually.” McLeod added what they did in response to COVID-19.
McLeod says the interim budget was passed, and is still preliminary, but they are hoping to do a bunch of paving projects. “We going to be meeting with our partners to tell the initiatives we’ve taken to hopefully make Fairview grow.”
As for looking forward to next year, McLeod is hoping the province and country can go back to normal and get COVID-19 under control, ideally so society can function like it did a year ago.
