MCU in Trouble ???

The Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU started back in 2008 and became the biggest thing in film and grew to be must watch, but lately hasn’t been riding that high. The MCU’s recent movies haven’t been making the money or getting the reviews they have seen in the past and have been declining from their peak since End Game. Besides the money not showing up and the public saying the movies are meh, the press has been getting worse.

Bad press from Johnathon Majors who is Kang, the big villain for the upcoming Avengers movies is facing charges stemming from a domestic abuse issue that has Disney/Marvel distancing themselves from him. Recently the multiple time Academy Award winner Sir Anthony Hopkins who portrayed Odin in the Thor films has spoken negatively about his experience in the franchise. He called it “pointless acting,” citing “they put me in armour; they shoved a beard on me,” he told The New Yorker, “sit on the throne, shout a bit.”

On top of the recent bad press when will we see Thor or Spiderman again? Hemsworth who made his name playing Thor in the MCU has said it will be a long time before he plans to play Thor if he ever does again, as it has gotten old for him and any excitement he has goes away quickly. So maybe we never see Thor again, but what about Spiderman? Tom Holland who plays Spiderman has decided to take a year away from acting. Now there is another sequel in development and won’t come out likely until 2027 after Phase 6, but how will his vacation from acting impact the filming of the 2 part Avenger films that are still listed as in development but are set for 2025 and 2026 releases.

The writers strike has also limited Ryan Reynolds with Deadpool 3 as it is filming but he cannot ad-lib due to the ongoing strike which could impact the film as Reynolds’ ad-libs are a staple of his work and the success of the prior 2 films.

The MCU was once the gold standard but with SO much content including shows and movies the fatigue has set in with so much for fans to have to watch to keep pace and Marvel who is running out of time to figure out their Majors issue might be close to calling it a day if things can’t turn around. The next test for them film wise will be seeing how a Captain America film not starring Chris Evans does with Captain America: Brave New World, which is currently filming with a May release date.
