July 28, 2021 – In a special council meeting today, the MD of Fairview elected to declare an Agricultural Disaster.
The decision came after a report courtesy of Fred Sawchuk, the Director of Parks & Agriculture for the MD.
Sawchuk estimates that many crops in the area will only see about 25 to 35 per cent yield this year.
Input was also given from a local producer who shared his concerns about his own fields, and also created discussion on what the process would be for farmers now that the MD is declaring the Agriculture Disaster.
It was pointed out that the MD is trying to create awareness of the situation, and the next step is local producers should be calling the Agricultural Financial Services Corporation to ask a representative to inspect their fields.
Listen to our discussion with Fred Sawchuk of the MD of Fairview.
