Cessna Road Project
Council reviewed a report from the engineering firm McElhanney regarding Cessna Road and agreed to add another inch of gravel in the spring of 2024 if required.

Grimshaw and District Chamber of Commerce
The Grimshaw and District Chamber of Commerce (GDCC) sent a request for two MD councillors or staff members to serve as judges for the upcoming business awards. Council authorized Councillor Theresa Johnson and CAO Margaret McClarty to join the events judging committee, providing that the judging can occur prior to November 4, 2024.

Carbon Tax Survey
Council directed Administration to respond to a survey from Alberta Municipal Affairs that requests municipalities share data regarding the financial impact of the federal carbon tax.

Christmas Social
Council set the date for their annual Christmas Social for December 2, 2024 with the County of Northern Lights and Northern Sunrise County. Council discussed the potential benefits of expanding the Christmas Social to include municipalities on the Regional Energy Committee for the 2025 Christmas Social. 

Northern Lakes College Request
Council reviewed a request from Northern Lakes College (NLC) to appoint a representative to serve on the Peace River Community Education Committee (CEC). The CEC acts as an advisory body for NLC to enhance educational opportunities and community engagement. Council will appoint a representative at their annual organizational meeting on October 22, 2024.

Council reviewed and approved updates and amendments to the following administrative policies:

  • ADM-25 Electronic Technology Resources Policy

  • ADM-30 Telecommunications Installations in Municipal Rights of Way Policy

  • ADM-31 Telecommunications Attachments Policy

  • ADM-27 Public Participation Policy

  • ADM-28 Disposal and Replacement of Capital Equipment

  • ADM-20 Investment Policy

  • ADM-29 Asset Management Policy

Public Hearing
A Public Hearing was held to redistrict lands at NW 33-83-23-W5 from Agriculture District to Country Residential. No concerns were put forth.

Adoption of Bylaw 8/2024
Council approved second and third readings of Land Use Bylaw 8/2024.
