New RCMP Detachment Commander
Detachment commander Lacey Blair from Fairview and Fort McMurray. Sergeant Dave Browne introduced Lacey Blair as the new Peace River Detachment Commander and provided an update on progress regarding regional priorities; rural crime, drug prevention and visibility, as well as community engagement initiatives.

Public Works Consulting and Training
Council approved contacting DK Blading to provide consulting services to assess the MD of Peace Public Works policies and practices and provide grader operator training. 


Strategic Planning
Council approved retaining Tash Taylor from Leadership Services to facilitate strategic planning sessions with and develop a Strategic Plan for the MD of Peace Council on September 16 and 17, 2024.

Brownvale Fire Hall Supernet Hosting
Council approved the renewal of the Supernet Housing Agreement with Bell Canada, reflecting an increase from $540 per year for electricity charges to $1000 per year. The MD can cancel the agreement with two years’ notice instead of three.

Brownvale Spring Clean-Up
Council approved a recommendation from administration to arrange a  Brownvale Clean-up Event by providing dumpsters in the community for 14 days. The dates will be shared with the community via the MD of Peace website, social media, and local newspaper. 


Records Storage for Berwyn Women’s Institute
Council approved a request from Berwyn’s WI Institute for the MD to store its files and directed administration to encourage the institute to digitize and give files to libraries and or museums.

Partial Road Ban RR 233
Council approved a partial road ban on Range Road 233 immediately south of the McInnis Well extending to Township Road 834 due to poor road conditions and directed administration to ensure signage is posted communicating the permanent partial road ban. The road is susceptible to damage due to various springs feeding into Wilderness Park.

Communications Consultant Contract
Council approved the continuation of Communication Consulting Services with Vanessa Burns from Revive Communications and approved CAO Margaret McClarty’s signing of a contract for services effective June 30 to December 31, 2024.

Recreation Master Plan
Komiete Tetteh, MacKenzie Municipal Services Agency (MMSA) provided Council with the final version of the MD of Peace 135 Recreation Master Plan. The plan includes feedback received online from residents and during the Open House held on May 16, 2024. The Recreation Master Plan will inform the MD of Peace 135 Strategic Planning in the fall of 2024. Council thanked Komiete for his assistance and leadership in drafting the plan.

Peace Regional Women’s Shelter
Council received an update from Peace Regional Women’s Shelter representatives regarding the renovation project after discovering black mold in the facility. Thanks to the fast action and generosity of the region, renovations are now complete, and operations are back to normal. Two days after reopening, the facility was at full capacity. Representatives thanked the Council for their support and generosity by providing $20,000 toward the renovation emergency which totalled over $500,000. The Peace Regional Women’s Shelter is one of the largest facilities in the north.

Resident Request – Children at Play Sign
Council reviewed a letter from a concerned resident regarding concerns with speeding on Township Road 834, with children playing nearby. Council approved the request for “Children at Play Signs” to be posted in the area.
