
Albertans are being asked to stay cautious ahead of the long weekend, as roughly 90 wildfires burn across the province.
Christie Tucker of Alberta Wildfire urges people to not be responsible for starting a new one.
Todd Loewen, the minister of forestry, parks and tourism, is asking people to restrict recreational activities on Crown land, including backcountry camping, mountain biking and hiking.
Some provincial parks where the fire danger is high are closed, including Young’s Point, Williamson, and Winagami Lake, while there may be more in the coming days.
There has been some good news though, evacuation orders in the town of Valleyview, sections of Big Lakes County, and areas in the County of Grande Prairie have been lifted.
Services in many municipalities are limited, as residents slowly come back to the area.
Currently over 10,000 people are still displaced from their homes across the province.
Dry, warm and windy weather is expected today, but rain is in the forecast in the Peace and Big Lakes Regions for the later half of the long weekend.
