Is this the most well-written and deep cinematic epic…no. Does it need to be…no. Is it a whole lot of fun and should you probably go see it this year…YES!
I have heard critiques that this film is not the most original and does not follow the game of Minecraft perfectly. Although that is true I want to get that out the way earlier because this movie is a whole lotta fun.
We follow this group of people who all come from different walks of life. A washed-up arcade gamer, a young brother and sister move into the neighbourhood and are trying to make a new life for themselves, and their neighbour who has multiple side hustles including a mobile zoo. They all end up in the overworld. The main area our movie takes place in. Allowing people to destroy and most importantly create. They then meet up with Steve and start their quest to retrieve the items they need to return home.
This movie is a lot of fun there is the weird town they live in with its potato chip factory and all of its teachers who are just done with everything. Crazy characters with a romance B plot and Jack Black just being himself.
Many times the movie had me laughing from its absurdity and really felt like just a fun comedy movie which I feel like we haven’t had a lot of in theatres as of late.
The world really does spark a lot of imagination and I heard many kids talking about it even after the film. It has the message of “create, even if the world may put you down never lose your spark” which I think in today’s world is an important one.
The culture around this movie has been fantastic. Originally people were skeptical if this movie was going to be good but as more trailers were shown people started picking up on the vibes of this movie. That is something these trailers did really well, showing the vibes of the movie as opposed to the plot. Honestly, I didn’t know what the plot was going to be heading into the movies but I did know that the movie was going to be a lot of fun.
Like I said the culture has been amazing with many fans erupting in theatres when iconic lines from the trailers were mentioned this even happened when I watched it. Although some people might hate the interruption I think it kind of added to the whole movie-going experience.
Overall if you are looking for a fun time check this movie out. It will put a smile on your face. The trailer does a great job of showing you what your in for.
