A great underdog story!
I want to start this off by saying that I am not the biggest sports fan. Despite that, I really enjoyed the movie. If you are or aren’t a fan that is not the story it is trying to tell. The movie is about how the Air Jordan shoe came to be and it is all based on the true story of what actually happened. The movie uses this to its advantage when at one point the character will say “Oh it won’t be that much money” They then proceed to overlay the actual sales figures of what happened for comedic effect and it is done very well.
We follow Sonny Vaccaro as he is trying to get Micheal Jordan to sign on with NIKE instead of the other companies. I swear the movie is a lot more interesting than that plot summary. The fact that everyone has heard of Micheal Jordan and Air Jordans means that something magical happened initially. A big gamble was taken and it paid off.
Since the movie is based on a true story we know how it ends. Some people maybe even wearing Air Jordans right now. So, what’s the point? In this case, knowing how it ends I don’t think made me any less interested in the story they were trying to tell. Even though I knew they were going to succeed when Sonny had to convince others of his plans. You were right there with him because you know that it was going to all workout.
The soundtrack in this movie is phenomenal! It’s a story in the 80’s so they have a lot of great 80s hits that help set the mood and I was bopping along to all of them.
This is just a great film with parts that made me laugh and parts that inspired me. The fact that it’s all based on a true story always makes it so much cooler. Some of the best stories are happening all around us. If you are still not convinced to go see it the trailer is below but going in blind is something I always recommend with a movie especially if it’s good.
