February 24, 2025 Blog, Jared, Movie Monday Mentions

A new hero picks up the mantle. Captain America: Brave New World sees Sam Wilson finally come into the role of Captain America and try his best to do the right thing.

First off, since it’s a Marvel movie, here’s your homework list. The Incredible Hulk from 2008. Yeah, this one is from a while back but our main villain has plot relevance here. It also makes sense considering Red Hulk is teased in the trailer. Eternals, a big plot point is the giant being located in the sea which shows up in that movie. You also need to watch the Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series which was a Disney Plus Exclusive. That one makes sense at least. It takes place before this movie and gives more info on what Sam Wilson was getting up to until this film. Is that a lot…yes have I seen all of them. Despite that, I feel like it did a good enough job explaining things.

Captain America: Brave New World is a bit different from the recent superhero films. Instead of magic, space, giant beings, or world-ending catastrophes, its focus is a very human and political plotline. Ok, there is still gamma radiation, super serum and a Hulk but it defiento;y feels a little more grounded. I thought that was a nice change of pace from other Marvel films we’ve been getting. I was invested in the drama throughout the film and was curious as to how they solved their issues. It was interesting to see how they approached issues. Although they have this “superhero” he can’t just rush in and solve everything there are consequences and ripples to his actions.

The characters were good. There was some good music, and of course, it’s Marvel, so there are a lot of special effects. There were a few big action scenes, and I thought those were really fun to watch, especially as they slow it down sometimes to really show what’s happening. Like his wings slicing through vehicles!

There were a few things I thought were stupid. There were some weird decisions the characters make like not wearing their suits when exploring a building where they are pretty sure the villain is. As well as just repeating some things we’ve seen in other movies. With a little suspension of disbelief…it’s fine.

Also leading up to this film there was some friendly drama going on between Anthony Mackie and Tom Holland. 7 years ago Tom Holland made a joke that there wasn’t a Falcon movie. Now that Anthony Mackie finally has his own film he is getting his revenge. His response during an interview absolutely cracked me up give it a watch HERE.

Overall, I didn’t think it was one of my favourite Marvel films but it wasn’t a bad one. If you want to check out more look at the trailer below.
