What a movie I feel like no one was asking for. This is a follow-up to the photorealistic remake of the lion king that Disney released. It technically takes place after the movie with Rafiki telling Symba’s child the story of her grandfather Mufasa. Since the story is told this way we get flashes back to the present every so often and get some comic relief from Timone and Pumba.
No, I don’t have as much nostalgia and fondness for The Lion King as others have. Don’t get me wrong the original is still amazing but this one felt…ok. Mufasa loses his family because he played in a puddle too long and got swept away by some water. Eventually meeting a new family with a son around his age named Taka (who later becomes Scar).
Since it’s a Disney musical there are some songs in the movie but none of them really clicked. The one upbeat one about them being brothers I thought was alight but the messaging just felt off and didn’t really stick…or earn its way onto my playlist.
visually it looks fine if you like the photorealistic style. due to the limitations some characters look similar and it can be hard to see some of their expressions but it did decent enough i never felt lost or didn’t understand what was happening.
Overall it’s an ok movie that if you’re really invested in Lion King isn’t bad but I don’t think it’s offering anything to go out of your way for.
