If you don’t mind a little blood this movie is fantastic!
We follow Nathan Caine Assistant manager at a bank. He lives with a condition where he can’t feel pain. At the start of the movie, we see him go about his daily life and all the things he has to do to keep himself safe. He has to put tennis balls on the corners of his house, ice in his coffee so it doesn’t burn him, and even wear a mouth guard when he sleeps. He ends up getting to know one of his colleagues at the bank and she ends up changing his life for the better. One day when the bank gets robbed the girl of his dreams gets taken as a hostage. He decides to take matters into his own hands and try to track down the captors. Using his inability to feel pain he can do things other people can’t, to get her back.
This is an action movie but the action scenes aren’t the flashiest. Nathan is a bank worker, he has no combat training. What he does do is use his environment to his advantage. At one point he reaches into a deep fryer to grab a gun to take care of an enemy. At another point, he punches glass to give his hits some extra zing. I was worried that with a concept like this, they might not deliver on it. After watching though I love how he used his ability to his advantage and was able to pull off moves that no one else could do. As cool as John Wick is he could not do some of these things. Also, Nathan is a lot funnier.
Visually it looks great and you get to see every detail of what happens to Nathan. Although he can’t feel the pain he does take damage and they show it. His body is bruised and battered by the end of the movie and although it may be gross to some, they rally sell that he has gone through a tough time to get where he is.
I also love how grounded the movie is. Although it’s an action movie Nathan has to face consequences for his actions. He’s doing the right thing but in the eyes of the law he is still committing crimes and I liked that the consequences of his actions were real.
Overall I loved this movie and I would recommend giving it a watch if you’re looking for a good comedy action film. If you want more info check out the trailer below.
