Movie Monday Mentions: Oppenheimer

July 31, 2023 Blog, Jared

The last Movie Monday was Barbie so of course I had to watch Oppenheimer this week to complete the Barbenheimer trend.

There are others that have been anticipating this movie a lot more than me. History buffs, Christopher Nolan fans, both of them, well I don’t really fall into either of those categories but I still really enjoyed this movie and felt like I got a lot out of it.

The movie is a dramatized documentary of the life of J Robert Oppenheimer. This movie is 3 hours long so make sure you use the washroom before it starts. Despite it having a long runtime I felt like it utilized every minute well. I never felt like things dragged on for too long and it was always pushing the story forward, even if it took some time to focus on some abstract concepts sometimes. It used all the time it had to really flesh out the connections that Oppenheimer made throughout his life. When they called back to them later in the move it felt really fulfilling because you knew who these people were to him and their relationships felt real.

There are a lot of storylines and although it may seem confusing at first everything tied together nicely for a great payoff. We follow Oppenheimer through his earlier years in school and see some early connections he makes. This then leads to his work as a theoretical physicist as we see him bring new concepts to North America and teach them. After that, we see how he works on the Manhattan Project and how everything came together with the development of the Atom Bomb. Then the aftermath of how this affected his life.

I would recommend checking this movie out like I said even if you aren’t too knowledgeable about the subject it does a great job of just telling an interesting story.

Leading up to the release of this movie I would have loved if they told a little more in the trailers about what the movie might include but if you know what to expect it does a great job of hyping it up. Below you can check out the trailer!
