Movie Monday Mentions: Puss in Boots – The Last Wish

Paws what you are doing right now and go watch this meow-velous movie!

Ok but seriously, this movie is really good. It has been 10 years since the last Puss in Boots movie came out. Even though I was a little rusty in my Puss in Boots Lore it does a really good job of standing on its own. There are some references to the previous movies. Although If you know the basic premise of a cat wearing boots going on adventures you’ll be fine. This one might be the cat’s last adventure. The basic premise of this movie is Puss in boots has used up all of his life and he is now on his 9th and final life.

On this adventure, we are greeted with familiar characters like Kitty Softpaws. As well as new characters like Perro, The three bears crime family and Jack Horner. As this franchise likes to do it puts a really fun spin on all of these classic fairytales that you know and love. Throughout the movie, they have references to other tales and fables that sometimes they don’t explain but it is really clear what it is from, which is really cool. It gave the same effect as a marvel crossover movie but with classic fairytales instead of comic book heroes.

I also really enjoyed the animation. The fight scenes look really good. If you have seen Into the Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse they do a similar visual trick. They slow down the framerate on certain characters and will change it at certain times to create a visually interesting action scene.

Not only is it visually beautiful but it is also hilarious. This movie had me laughing out loud multiple times at the jokes and references. If you are watching this as a family all age ranges will be entertained. Part of the comedy could be due in part to one of the main antagonists throughout the film being voiced by John Mulaney.

I would definitely give this a watch whether as a family or just for yourself. If you are still on the fence I have included the trailer below.
