I have been trying to find a good horror movie for a while now. Does The Monkey get added to the list of the greats…let’s find out.

The movie starts with a man trying to get rid of a cursed evil monkey. This doesn’t work because we need a movie to happen.

We then follow twin brothers the sons of the man at the beginning. They discover the monkey in their father’s closet. Leading them to play around with it. This leads to some gruesome deaths because every time that the monkey plays its drum someone dies. Once they realize this they lock it up for good. But of course, this evil can not stay contained forever.

The movie has a time skip in the middle where we follow these brothers years later and find out how the monkey has affected their lives. Playing the adult twins is Theo James. There are a couple of other big names that appear in this film. The dad at the beginning is played by Adam Scott and Elijah Wood is there too. Was not expecting a lot of these. I also didn’t expect this to be based on a Stephen King short story.

The movie was wild since the monkey causes a lot of deaths they show them all in a gruesome fashion. Honestly, they get pretty creative with some of them. The movie is also quite funny. There were quite a few comedic moments and although there was horrific death since there was so much the town even got its own death cheer squad which I thought was hilarious.

I don’t know quite how I feel about this movie. I don’t think it’s scary, gruesome and horrific, yes, but it might get you a laugh or two as well. It’s definitely more of a unique experience out there and it did get me thinking about it even a few days after I saw it. If you want more info check out the trailer below!
