I was not expecting to like this as much as I did.
Violent Night is Die Hard…if Die Hard had a lot more Christmas in it. Our movie starts by introducing us to Santa who at this point is done with his job claiming this might be his last Christmas but after landing at this rich family’s house he gets caught up in the middle of a home invasion. These robbers are after the money that this family has in their vault. Santa ends up helping this family because a little girl request and believes that Santa can do it!
Initially, I didn’t know what to expect from this movie. Lots of recent trailers have been campy takes on classic properties and I thought this might be something similar but after watching this it is really not. the movie was really well done. Aside from some cheesy one-liners (which let’s face it every action movie has) it is really well done. The fight scenes had some interesting choreography and the lore that they establish with this Santa is quite cool I wasn’t expecting them to get as detailed as they did with his backstory.
Between all the action, and violence there is also some comedy as well I wasn’t expecting to chuckle as much as I did with the brutality that was on the screen.
It helps to have knowledge of other Christmas movies before watching this because there are references made to, as I previously mentioned, Die Hard as well as home alone. At one point the little girl even sets up traps for the robbers like in the classic film.
If you are looking for a fun, Violent Christmas film I would recommend this one. I really enjoyed it and might have to add it to my yearly holiday watchlist.
Below I have included the trailer which I would say is worth a lot, unlike some other trailers this one doesn’t give away too much but does get you excited for the film!
