The Conservative Party of Canada plans to keep a close eye on the spending habits of the governing Liberal Party.
The CPC started a website that the party claims will track how the federal government distributes its dollars.
Peace River-Westlock MP, Arnold Viersen says he feels it’s important for Canadians to see how their money is being spent.
“Over the next couple of weeks, we will be highlighting wasteful money that has been spent,” says Viersen.
“Probably key among them is the $50 million that they gave to; a small company called Mastercard. They had billions in profits but for some reason, the Prime Minister felt we needed to give them $50 million”
The website also claims the government spent $20,000 on filters for Snapchat, and Viersen admits he knows little about the social media platform.
“I am not even sure I know what a Snapchat filter is,” explains Viersen. “It is something to do with social media but $20,000 on filters seems like a lot to me.”
Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau promised a balance budget by 2019 but Viersen says it could be much longer before Canada gets out of the red ink.
“Finance Canada is not projecting a balanced budget until 2045, I believe.”
