National Non-Smoking Week

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is marking National Non-Smoking Week this week.  Throughout the week, AHS will be stressing the importance of keeping homes and vehicles smoke free.  North Zone Medical Officer of Health Doctor Albert de Villiers says they’re focusing on homes and cars this year because they always try to target something different every year.  He says people tend to forget about homes and cars because smoking has already been banned in work places, as well as restaurants.  Doctor de Villiers adds it’s not just the smoker who gets affected, but people who inhale second hand smoke.  He also mentions third hand smoke, where smoke gets into the furniture and other areas of the home, even when you open a window to air out the space.
