NDP Leadership Candidates – Kathleen Ganley

Former Justice Minister Kathleen Ganley is one of the six candidates in the NDP leadership race.

Ganley says the economy is one of the main focuses of her campaign.

“We have a government who is running around telling everyone that the economy is great, but that’s not actually really the lived experience of people on the ground. Most people are struggling to afford their mortgage of their rent, they’re struggling to pay skyrocketing electricity bills or buy groceries. So that’s a really big concern.”

Some policies that Ganley has on her platform include raising minimum wage and increasing the basic income tax exemption.

She says her main policies are focused on putting more money in the hands of everyday people.

“To make sure that they can spend that in the local economy because there is a lot of evidence that it is a really good economic driver. A lot of the stuff that we did in government, so expanded petro-chemical diversification for instance, is a big thing. Ensuring that people have access to higher wages and there’s a lot of policies that can support that.”
